Animation

Whew, well that took much longer than expected...but i finally got the results i was looking for. I based this animation off of an informational standpoint. My idea was that when ever any two entities interact with one another, a certain amount and type of information is always exchanged between the two. So the animation i made is a kind of representation of that interaction.

blog posts (11/2/09 - 11/8/09)

Black Hole Animation

1. I love every inch of this picture. It's my background for my computer now even. It's look, placement, coloring, mood...I find every bit of it to be mesmerizing. I want to know why she's shooting and who's she shooting. This is one of the few illustrations that really make me want to know more.

2. Whoops. Forgot to flip it right side up. Anyway, this is the first thing I've really drawn on paper almost all semester! I figured i needed a break from the digital pad. Call me traditional but there really isn't anything like the feel for a pen or pencil directly on paper. So as I hope you can tell, this drawing is a little more detailed than my previous drawings. Not much to say about it...still trying to get a better grasp on character sketching. One day!!

3. I thought this was a cool animation. We've seen a few videos this week having to do with animation and music, so i thought this video would be appropriate.

This is just genius -Blog Post #3- (10/19/09 - 10/25/09)

Ahhhh now i think everyone's been caught in that situation where they're in need of some form of cd case. i have. numerous times. and it sucks when you can't find one because giving your friend the disc you just burned him without a case is simply rude. so this is a video i think everyone can benefit from.
Easy Cd Case ....NO Glue .... For Everybody.... - The top video clips of the week are here

Zombbieees -Blog Post #2- (10/19/09 - 10/25/09)

I've fallen in love with all the recent zombie madness going around the internet, movies, games...all of it. So whenever i find stuff like this i can't help but smile and hope for the next zombie apocalypse to roll around.

You just punched all the blood out of me -Blog Post #1- (10/19/09 - 10/25/09)

Hah, now heres something im proud of. This may be one of my more adventurous drawings...i still have yet to decide what he's hitting. Maybe its that god awful bunny i drew last week :P

Stupid Happy -Blog Post 3- (10/12/09 - 10/18/09)

Haaaaa...no real comment for this drawing. I been drawing some rather morbid stuff lately, so i wanted to create a stress free, jolly picture. I don't know why it's a rabbit...i suppose that's just how I picture joy would be if it were a creature. A joyous little rabbit. And i just bought a new longboard, so i suppose it's also a representation of my mood too. Enjoy.

How to cope with death -Blog Post 2- (10/12/09 - 10/18/09)

Wasn't sure what I was watching at first, but this actually made me laugh out loud. A short animation about how an elderly woman copes with death! Sure to at least put a smile on your face. It's a slick, short (only 2 minutes) animation, so be sure to watch the whole thing

Cool bike design! -Blog Post 1- (10/12/09 - 10/18/09)

Found a cool site showing off a cool new bike design. Made to look like an illusion, the thing actually works though. Makes me wonder who thought it up and how and why they did. Read about it here http://illusion.scene360.com/design/5096/phantom-bike/

Best to grow eyes back there... -Blog Post 3- (10/05/09 - 10/11/09)

Just another rough sketch I guess. I want to start drawing more figures, really get down body proportions, cuz I figure once I get those down I can start to manipulate them however I want and still get a good looking outcome. The idea of death as a whole has always been an attractive thought to me. I based this sketch off of the fact that you never know when death is going to sneak up in your life...haha hope this isn't too morbid!! (I'm really quite the cheery fellow)

Words Can't Express the Awesome -Blog Post 2- (10/05/09 - 10/11/09)

More illustrations! Found an artist who has a very comical feel to his drawings, but they're still incredibly detailed. Just more to take inspiration from I suppose. The site I found is full of his work but I found this picture to be the most appealing....I hope you see why too.

Recycle Art! -Blog Post 1- (10/05/09 - 10/11/09)

Pretty cool site showing off a rocking chair made from a barrel. I think. That's what it looks like. But since this is a design based class, i thought it'd be a good site to post.

Rate this! -Blog Entry 2- (9/28 - 10/4)

Here's a sight that i suggest anyone even interested in drawing visits.
http://www.ratemydrawings.com/drawings/collaborations/489863.html
This sight shows the actual process of artists creating their drawing, and they have some REALLY good artists out there using this sight, so getting to watch how they create their art is not only insightful, it's fun

Pen sketches! -Blog Entry 1- (9/28 - 10/4)

Really liked this pen sketch here, mostly because of the hair. Why? Because hair is a pain in the butt to draw. So when i see detail like this put into a sketch (done with a pen...), i gotta show my appreciation, admiration, and envy for that level of skill

Doodles -Blog Entry 3- (9/21 - 9/27)

This week I've noticed that my notes for other classes have become awfully clogged with doodles I've been drawing to pass the time, so I decided to post them! Doodles have pretty much been the only way I've practiced drawing. So you'll see a lot of variation (and math notes) in these images. Hope you don't get too weirded out.

Thor -Blog Entry 2- (9/21 - 9/27)

Now I thought this was a really cool illustration of MARVEL's iconic superhero and Norse god, Thor. There really isn't any specific reason for me posting this particular piece except that I think it's a great illustration. I hope that during my time in college, character design is one aspect I pick up and am really able to work with.

Nexus -Blog Entry 1- (9/21 - 9/27)

Photo's taken of outer space have always fascinated me, and will always continue to do so. This is a picture of a nexus taken by NASA. Just the sheer awesomeness and beauty of what's lying out there in space is humbling, but it's also a big inspiration for my work...wondering about the unknown is great fuel for one's imagination.

What happens next -Post 3- (9/14 - 9/20)

Third sketch. Probably my most uninteresting. Wanted to work on my proportioning and working with different perspectives with a figure. Even got to practice a bit of shading in this one. Not particularly awe inspiring but I think I'm making some strides with my drawing. I'm definitely trying new things and shying away from the same basic patterns and forms I usually draw in. Hope you enjoy.

Butcher -Post 2- (9/14 - 9/20)

I thought this was pretty cool. Talk about intuitive design...I don't even know how he did that. I'm guess photoshop or something, but that just looks real. And for a pencil sketch, that ain't half bad.

Terra Incognita -Post 1- (9/14 - 9/20)

Hey everyone, here's a video documentary on the new up coming game "Halo 3:ODST". It has the design team talking about how and why they made the game like they did. It's all about design, really good video to watch. Check out the link!

Assignment 3

Whew. Finally got em all. I can certainly say i've finally got some decent experience with the pen tool after this assignment. 4 vector images based off my haptic models, there ya go.

Blog Post (09/07/09 - 09/13/09)

Third week is at an end folks. And with it comes the usual posts.
So the first one I have for you is an illustration, and a beautiful one at that.
The color really made this picture stand out to me and hey, I even captured a bit of my weeks emotion in it. College, I've learned, can become very, very stressful...definitely need to find a way to vent it all out of ya.

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhP4eBRC_VTuAELxYmqCabnA5Bu6r_dDRN8CLCmD8EoABtVnWDK3OXlw1kXvmU0Rc3X2iQnkbYnEFkbTU3Ud50VIeLlTfkf4v5zTpDUGN4Lc5N0jK8gGhamBh79N6Wxt9GSd-SLdARTuOw/s1600-h/whisper+louder+blue.jpg

The second entry is a web site. http://www.drawspace.com/ is a big old page filled with other links to over a hundred different drawing tutorials. I found a number of them to be quite helpful, so if drawing is your kinda thing then I definitely recommend heading over to this site. (P.S. you do have to create an account to actually view some the tutorials, but it's free)

And lastly, here is my third sketch. Once again I made my hands start it and let my imagination do the rest. I'm actually really stoked because I'm starting to get back into the groove of drawing hands correctly again (mostly). The inspiration from this....probably followed in suit with the illustration above. This week was definitely the most stressed filled for me, and me going insane is something I'm not about to let happen. Hope you enjoy.

Haptic Models! (oopsie)

Oops, couldn't fit all six in one post...here's the last one.

Haptic Models!

Well. If I've gained anything out of doing this assignment...it's that I've found a new vehement, burning hatred for glue guns. That stuff burns when it gets on your skin. And then when you try to get it off it just sticks to your fingers and burns them too. The stuff is just evil. Anyway, here ya go, six shots of some of the models I created.

blog entry #3 (8/30 - 9/5)

Annnd here's the second sketch I've made for the blog. Usually when drawing on Photoshop I find myself getting really picky with how everything is looking and end up spending a LOT of time going back to fix little mistakes. So with this one I just let my hands start making curves and went on from there making sure to minimize how much of my sketch I was going back to correct. I'm actually surprised with what came out in the end, I just built on the idea as I went along. I have no real solid explanation for it, so what you see is what you get. Hope you like.

blog entry #2 (8/30 - 9/5)

So being an avid fan of video games, I thought this was an appropriate drawing to put up. One of the more popular titles of 2008 was a game called "Left 4 Dead", where it was you, three of your pals, and a whole lot of ammo pitted against hordes of hundreds of zombies. So here's an artists idea of the game if it involved kids instead of adults.

blog entry #1 (8/30 - 9/5)

So here's another video I found. Artists had a week to draw what they wanted onto a blank wall and what was created over that course of time is simply astounding. A very cool video and I highly recommend watching the entire thing. Watch it here at http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xhpgm_one-week-of-art

Transformations

Three different collages all just messing around with different transformation, filter, and color changes

First sketch-up

Well, here's my first sketch. I think for most artists, hands can be really tricky to draw (they most certainly are for me), but even if you get em close to looking right it's always a good feeling and it can add a LOT to a drawing. So here's just a quick, basic, open-handed pose with a quick swirl design thrown in (still fudged it a bit, but hey it's good practice!)

couldn't pass this one up when i saw it. a really detailed pencil sketch with a lot of different images and shapes blended with one another, has a really good look to it. 2d graphics are what i hope to specialize in later on down the road so drawings like this have always been captivating to me.

Five minutes for one hundred years

I stumbled on to this little gem about a week ago.
It's a video depicting how visual effects in movies have changed over the past hundred years.
I'm posting the link to GIZMODO directly because the site offers some other cool visual effects videos and articles. Check it out!

Scenery, City, and Object oh my!

Alright, first assignment of the semester! So what we've got below here are three different images relating to three different themes; Scenery, City, and Object.

I chose this scenic image because of all the different landscapes Earth has to offer, I still find myself most fascinated when I watch the clouds. You can find this image at http://declubz.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/weird-clouds.jpg
I don't think that I've never NOT liked a boombox. I think the boombox first introduced real visual artistic design into how we listen to music. It's like the Grandpa of iPod's. Get this image here http://media.photobucket.com/image/boombox/vhsdifgsad/boombox.jpg
This is Pripryat. A ghost city where 50,000 people used to live. A person can draw so many ideas from the image of an entire city that's been standing still while the rest of the world has moved on. Look here for the image http://scrapetv.com/News/News%20Pages/Business/images-2/pripyat-ukraine.jpg

Hello!

For anyone looking at this blog!
A big hello and welcome to my first blog and first blog post! Really wasn't expecting that I'd be getting graded over a blog so I hope this all works out haha...
The name's Dustin Harvey and most of the stuff I'll be posting up here will be for my IFDM class, so from what I understand that means it'll be a lot of pictures and sketches.
Thanks for taking the time to check my blog out, hope you enjoy!
